The programme of the International Creole Festival 2018 unveiled

The details of the 2018 International Creole Festival, “Festival International Kreol”, has been unveiled to the press on Monday 12th November at Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel. “The 2018 edition will be a memorable one as we are also celebrating the 50th anniversary of the independence of Mauritius”, said the minister of Tourism Anil Gayan, who also highlighted that this festival aimed at valuing the heritage and history of our country. The theme will be “Kreolite nou leritaz” this year.

The programme:

Friday 16 November: Jazz-poetry evening at Château de Labourdonnais, Mapou

Saturday 17 November: Several « Bal rann zarico » organised in all the municipalities and district councils, from 1 pm to 5 pm

Sunday 18 November : Regatta at Mahebourg with some 30 sail boats. There will also be a parade with ancient boats and a culinary festiva to showcase the different specialties from Chagos, Agalega, Rodrigues and Mauritius.

Monday 19 November: Final of a theatre contest at Serge Constantin theatre in Vacoas, where 22 different prizes will be awarded, followed by a theatre play in creole with Komiko

Tuesday 20 November: Slam contest at Octave Wiehé auditorium

Wednesday 21 November: « Sega lontan » concert in tribute to the famous sega singer Fanfan at Père Laval Stadium in Ste Croix

Thursday 22 November: Open air cinema in Trou d’Eau Douce to promote Mauritian short films an a fashion show in Port Louis market.

Friday 23 November: Traditional sega evening around a camp fire at Le Morne

Saturday 24 November: Conference at Intercontinental Hotel, in Balaclava, on the theme « Kreolité nou leritaz » - the challenges of creole language. There will also be concerts in Flacq, Petite Rivière and Curepipe to give the opportunity to young talents to perform on stage. Artists such as The Prophecy, Sky to Be, Jason Heerah, will also be on stage.

Sunday 25 November: The main event of the festival will be a big carnival in the North, starting at Mont Choisy Le Mall and ending on Grand-Bay football ground, with participants from Brazil, Egypt, India, among others. The finalists of the Miss France Pageant could also be present at the event.
