The launch of the exhibitions of the Italian artist Ilaria Arpino and the Mauritian Céline Le Vieux took place on Friday 9th November at Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa. The fifty guests present at the event had the opportunity to appreciate the works of the two artists which were displayed in the adjoining rooms of the Maradiva Art Gallery by Adamah Fine Arts, while listening to the Mauritian singer Yvette Dantier performing live.
In the first exhibition room, Ilaria Arpino’s “Urban Angels” are made up of a series of bronze statues, solitary and fragile, contrasting with rough building elements such as concrete, stone and steel. The artist has travelled the world and been featured in renowned galleries in the United States, France, Thailand and China, among others. Besides, several of her paintings have been used in national advertising campaigns in the United States and Italy.
In another room, the guests can contemplate the landscapes depicted by Céline Le Vieux with oil colours. The artist takes inspiration from the Mauritian nature and landscapes. The young Mauritian artist studied in Paris, trying sculpture, drawing and textile before choosing painting as the main means of expression back to her native island.
During the launch ceremony, the CEO of Maradiva Sanjiv Ramdanee expressed his satisfaction about the success of the Artist in residence project of the resort and said that, through it, Mauritius will have the opportunity to welcome more international artists. He also said that it is important to also promote the work of local talented artists.
