It is time for a change at Sun Resorts to improve the experience in the hotels of the group; the CEO David Anderson made this announcement at the traditional evening held for tour-operators and travel agents at Shangri-La Paris on Wednesday, alongside the IFTM Top Resa meeting. As such, Sugar Beach is launching an intensive renovation period that will be effected in phases, starting with the creation of a new F&B concept. The rooms will be renovated without the hotel being closed. The works should be completed by September 2019. On the Eastern coast, the reception and the lobby of Long Beach will also undergo thorough changes redefining the concept of the welcoming, said David Anderson.
The CEO of Sun Resorts also talked about the successful renovation of La Pirogue and Kanuhura Maldives. He mentioned the great scores of the oldest hotel of the group on TripAdvisor, and the two awards granted by Kanuhura Maldives at the ALTA 2018 (Asian Lifestyle Tourism Awards), namely Leading Beach Resort in South-Asia and Leading Spa Resort in Maldives, making of the hotel the Leading Beach and Spa Resort of the South-Asian region. Finally, David Anderson highlighted the good financial results of the group that will pay back dividends to its shareholders for the first time in six years. And, according to the figures published by Sun Limited for the financial year 2017-18, the group has recorded a net profit of Rs.194,067 million, against a loss of Rs. 112 million for the previous financial year. The group is back in the profit zone thanks to the good performance of its hotels in Mauritius, namely Long Beach and Ambre with a turnover increase of 14% and 13% respectively, despite the negative impact of Kanuhura Maldives on the global results.
Gerhard Hecker, General Manager of Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa, and Jean-Pierre Dalais, Director of Sun Limited and Group Chief Executive of CIEL, were among the guests present of the event.
