SALT of Palmar is now open

The first hotel of the new brand SALT has opened its doors in Palmar on the Eastern coast. With its 59 rooms, the hotel positions itself as the ideal rendezvous for modern travellers, curious about culture and real Mauritian life. Its distinctive look comes from the collaboration of the Mauritian architect Jean-François Adam from JFA Architects, a visionary man who has been awarded for his outstanding contemporary works in Mauritius and abroad, with the French artist Camille Walala, whose mural paintings are featured on buildings around the world. This first work in the hospitality world for Camille brings a new dimension to the Mauritian design horizon while reflecting the progressive spirit of SALT.

SALT

“Everything in this hotel is conceived to bring people together. From the common table in the bakery, the beach bar, to the first bar on the roof of Mauritius and the appealing spaces of the SALT Spa, it is all about bringing together and share travel stories and enjoy this incredible place”, says Jean François Adam. With the will to make something different, it was obvious that the interior should be designed by an artist instead of an interior designer. The open approach of Camilla Walala in terms of colours, combined with her passion for Mauritius, designated her as the perfect choice. To find inspiration, she travelled throughout the island, met the local craftsmen and captured the light palette of the island; from the green landscapes, the bright coloured houses, the marine blue landscapes, and the stunning sunsets, to the community life and the coloured mix of the culture that makes Mauritius so special. “People paint their houses in surprising colours that contrast with the lush tropical setting. When choosing the colours for SALT of Palmar, I wanted to find a balance between the natural tones and the audacious pop colours”, she says.

SALT is a brand of LUX* Group.
