On the occasion of the World Tourism Day celebrated on the 27th September, the Tourism Diocesan Committee organised a workshop at the Coworking office, on the theme: “Technology at the heart of tourism”. The objective behind this initiative was, according to the President of the Diocesan Tourism Committee, Marie Malié, to share and associate new ideas and experiences. She highlighted the importance of valuing the human factor when technology is related to tourism. Students from Hotel schools or studying in the tourism stream, various players of the industry and tech-preneurs, where among the participants of the workshop.
The CEO of AHRIM Jocelyn Kwok wanted to recall the fundamentals that tourists are looking for while in the process of choosing their destination. “Actually, the tourist will look on internet to get the information but also the comments that will influence his choice. Eight person on 10 rely on recommendations found on internet. The tourists expects that the internet responds to his needs: trust, autonomy and economy. He sees the digital platform as a facilitator and a guide. Its importance can be measured in the customisation of the services and helps to learn about the behavioural change of the traveller.” He also mentioned the importance of interactive terminals that will help the tourists to better learn about the destination.
The students also had the opportunity to attend various presentations and interact with others on different themes: how can companies in the tourism sector integrate the digital practices of young people; how and why value human through technology in tourism; how to use technology to connect formal and informal tourism workers, and why does the tourism industry need innovation?
The annual tourism mass will take place on Thursday 4th October at 1 pm, at Sainte-Croix Church.
