78 films for the short film festival 2018

The 11th Festival Ile Courts edition organised by the Porteurs d’Images Association, will be taking place from the 9th to the 13th October this year. The event will be sponsored by the French documentary and film maker Chantal Richard. She will be leading a Master class on documentary making on Thursday 11th October at 6 pm at the IFM (Institut Français de Maurice), and will afterwards introduce her film “Ce dont mon Coeur a besoin” on Saturday 13th October at MCiné in Trianon.

There were some 700 films selected at start sent by various film makers and foreign distributors as well as selections prepared by partner festivals. At the end, 78 films from 26 countries have been retained. This countries represent the Indian Ocean region, and the Creole and French speaking islands of the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean.

Fim Zekler will form part of the festival this year again. 50 entries have been received for 20-second films. 6 have been selected: Gato pima from A. Ittoo, Insert from L. Frédéric, Enn zournee laplaz from T. Jean-Louis, Lamann from D. Appasamy, Souffrance apaisée from G. Thiboudois and Duel from N. Roodur. The public has been invited to vote for his favourite film since the 17th September, on the Facebook page: Fim Zekler. The winners will be unveiled on the 12th October during the Sinema Koltar session at Tamarin. Fim Zekler is the result of a partnership with MCB. Sinema Koltar will take place on three other sites also: L’Aventure du Sucre on the 10th October, at the Plaza on the 12th October, and at Mahebourg Waterfront on the 13th October.

This year, CANAL+ will also organise a special session “Zetwal dan lizie” for 300 guests from various NGOs. For the first time, the Festival Ile Courts will have an OFF programme taking place after the festival. There will be two new events at Hennessy Park Hotel: a ptch session “Adopte un.e réalisateur.trice on the 16th October at 7.30pm and a “Apéro-Ciné” on the 20th October at 7.30 pm, with free entrance. A critical review workshop for short films dedicated to journalists and led by Jacques Kermabon, Editor in Chief of Bref magazine, published by the “Agence française du court métrage”, is due to take place on Wednesday 10th October at 2 pm at the Caudan Marina Quay. Since its creation, Porteurs d’Images has gathered a total of 34 716 persons for its film projections.
